Braggin’ on my Bro
Please forgive me as I need to brag on my brother Brad for a moment.
Today has been proclaimed as Brad Richter day in the City of San Diego, California. He’s spent decades doing amazing city planning work in downtown San Diego, and he formally retired yesterday. The City Council honored him by designating July 16th as Brad Richter Day. Their reasons are many, as outlined in the council proclamation below.
Please join me in raising a toast to a dedicated and talented public servant. I’m damn proud of you, bro.
Brad Richter Day
Whereas, Brad Richter was honored by the Downtown San Diego Partnership in 2019 with the Alonzo Horton Founders Award for his dedication to Downtown San Diego and visionary leadership in developing a smart and vibrant urban core; and
Whereas, Brad Richter served not only as a valiant leader, but also a mentor, friend, and confidante to many colleagues and fellow urban planners throughout his career and always fostered an environment of collaboration, creativity, and excellence among his staff; and
Whereas, Brad Richter has played a strategic role in the development of Downtown San Diego over the past 23 years that has helped shape the urban landscape and led to the creation of iconic Downtown projects, such as the world-class ballpark development and the construction of tens of thousands of housing units; and
Whereas, Brad Richter has been instrumental in securing open space for the development of new parks throughout Downtown San Diego, which have enhanced the public realm and created a vibrant urban experience for future generations of San Diegans; and
Whereas, Brad Richter initiated and implemented an active transportation network of cycleways, greenways, and multi-modal roadways throughout Downtown as part of the Downtown San Diego Mobility Plan, improving the health, safety, and well-being of San Diegans and serving as a key building block of the Climate Action Plan; NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Council of the City of San Diego, that this Council, for and on behalf of the people of San Diego, does hereby proclaim July 16 to be “Brad Richter Day” in the City of San Diego.
